Zelda E. Prince, 80, of Derry, NH, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, surrounded by her friends. Ms. Prince was born in Haverhill, MA on May 23, 1929, daughter of the late Albert C. and Leah G. (Primrose) Prince. She was raised in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School, later attending Lowell Normal School in Lowell, MA (now the University of MA, Lowell.) Zelda began her career in the food service industry working with her father at Al and Zel's Clam Shack at Salisbury Beach. She also worked the lunch counter at Ames in the Hood Plaza, Derry, cooked for Hoodkroft Nursing Home and began a long career at the Beaver Lake Lodge, Derry, in 1989 as the Food Services Coordinator. Following retirement she was a dedicated volunteer in the Partial Hospitalization Program at the Lodge. Zelda was a "human encyclopedia" in trivia and history. She enjoyed singing, cross-stitch, crossword puzzles, bingo, her trips to Hawaii and Maine, The Red Sox, lobster and fried clams. Zelda also enjoyed writing children's stories. She loved her cats, was a great cook and a great friend.
She is survived by her brother, Albert C. Prince Jr. of Anderson, SC, two nieces, Erika Melnick of Enfield, CT and Sandra McKeown of Vernon, CT and many friends who adored her. She was predeceased by her infant twin brother, Alfred.
A memorial service was held at 4:00pm on Sunday, May 9, 2010 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. The burial was held Tuesday in the Riverside Cemetery in Groveland, MA.
