Obituary

Evangelyn A.V. "Vangie" (Vidal) Henderson, 96, of New Bedford died May 5, 2010.
She was the wife of the late John C. Henderson.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John E. and Annie M. (Chase) Vidal, she lived in North Carolina for several years before returning to New Bedford.
Mrs. Henderson was formerly employed as a secretary for the Wing Commander at Otis Air Force Base for many years. She later was a librarian at the Newport Naval Base until her retirement at the age of 78.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir.

While living in North Carolina, she was a member of the Nel Hunter Choir and sang at the White House in 1939 for the King and Queen of England.
Survivors include a brother, Stuart W. Vidal of Poughkeepsie, NY; and three nieces, Lynn Vidal of California, Carol A. Rocha of New Britain, CT and Gail E. Drayton of New Bedford and two nephews George C. Vidal and John E. Vidal, both of California.
She was the sister of the late George C. Vidal, Huntington C. Vidal, and John E. Vidal, Jr.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Saturday, May 8th from 4-8 PM. There will be no visiting hours on Sunday.
