AUBURN___Helena B. (Mysliwiec) Seligowski, 89, of Auburn, formerly of Worcester and Cotuit, died Saturday Oct. 25 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, 119 Belmont St., Worcester. Her husband, Louis V. Seligowski died Feb. 27, 1990.
She leaves two sons, Theodore A. Seligowski of Auburn and Louis S. Seligowski of Sutton; two brothers, Joseph P. Mysliwiec of Auburn and Chester P. Hunter of Clearwater, Fl., a sister, Alicia B. Makowiecki of Grafton; two grandaughters, Antonia V. Seligowski and Rachel Leah Seligowski and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Rev. Bronislaus S. Mysliwiec; Stanley J. Hunter and Emily Jane Bruneau. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Joseph T. and Emilia A. (Zawacka) Mysliwiec.
Mrs. Seligowski was a clerk many years for the Selective Service Board in Worcester and retired several years ago. She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving with the WAVES as a Petty Officer 1st Class. At the time of her enlistment she was a resident of Strawn, Texas and was the first woman county resident there to join the Navy.
She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, Worcester, was a charter member of Polish American Veterans of World War II, Worcester and the Old Ironsides Chapter of WAVES. She was also a member of Women in Military Service for America.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday Oct. 29 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial with Military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday Oct. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Members of Polish American Veterans of World War II will meet at 7:30 p.m. during calling hours to conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Memorial Fund, 34 Ward St., Worcester or to a charity of the donors choice.
