TEWKSBURY - Albert C. "Al" Molander, age 71, a Korean War era veteran and former businessman, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, May 5, at Saint's Medical Center in Lowell, after suffering an apparent heart attack at home earlier that morning. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen (Hayes) Molander, with whom he had celebrated a 47th wedding anniversary this past March 10th.
He was born in Weymouth, November 17, 1938, a son of the late Walter and Grace (Earle) Molander. He was raised in the Brockton and Massachusetts South Coast areas, but moved to Tewksbury thirty five years ago.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy, and spent his sea duty tour aboard the USS Rushmore.
He was active as a former officer and member of the Board of Directors for the Wilmington V.F.W. for more than thirty five years.
He founded and operated Al's Service Center, an automobile repair station, in the Silver Lake area of Wilmington until his retirement. For the past thirteen years, he worked as a courier for Dynamic Research Company in Wilmington and Andover.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Molander and his wife Deborah (Donovan) of Wilmington, Scott Molander and his wife Kelly (Melanson) of Tewksbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Kerri Gould and her husband Rick of Camden, Del; eight grandchildren, Richard and Jonathan Molander of Wilmington, Kasey, Melissa, and Sarah Molander of Tewksbury, Wesley, Spencer, and Nathan Gould of Del.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda Ducharme and her husband Melvin of RI, and Charlotte Barrus of Easton, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service was held Saturday, May 8, in the Funeral Home, followed by burial in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
