Obituary

I. Stuart Gilman, Jr., 76, of Derry, NH died Saturday May 1, 2010 at his home. Mr. Gilman was born in Plaistow, NH on March 12, 1934, the only son of the late Irving S. and Christine J. (Davis) Gilman. He was raised in Plaistow and had resided in Derry since 1966. He was a 1956 graduate of the UNH Air Force ROTC program in Durham, NH and later served with the US Air Force during the late 1950's. Mr. Gilman was employed for RCA and Honeywell Corporations where he worked as a software programmer. He retired in 2008 from Market Basket Corp. in Tewksbury, MA where he had worked as a systems analyst and programmer. He was a member of the Gideon Lodge #84 in Kingston, NH, the Masonic Lodge in Plaistow, and a 50 year member of the Shriners of North America . He also belonged to the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in the Valley of Portsmouth-Dover. Mr. Gilman was past treasurer and vice president of the Quayside Yacht Club in Moultonborough, NH where he was a member for more than 20 years. He was an avid collector of miniature bulldozers, tractors and other toy construction vehicles.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia B. (Bratton) Gilman of Derry, one son, Stuart P. Gilman and his wife Joni of Salida, CA, one daughter, Kathleen L. Torre and her husband Martin of Pembroke, NH, seven grandchildren, Brandon, Jared, Brittany, Benjamin, Vanessa, Joseph and Jacqueline, three great-grandchildren, Josiah, Tyler and Pilot, also a niece, a nephew and one cousin.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Saturday May 8, 2010 from 5 to 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A memorial service followed at 7:00pm in the funeral home with military honors. Private burial will be Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to The Loon Preservation Committee, P.O.
