Obituary

HAMPSTEAD-David Aaron Catanzaro, 16, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 in Groton, NH. He was born in Middletown, CT, the son of David and Michelle (Lego) Catanzaro. He had lived in Clinton, CT and Medford, MA, before moving to Hampstead in 1999. David was a sophomore at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, where he participated on the Pinkerton Newsletter. David loved the arts, excelling as an artist, poet and musician, and car enthusiast. He played guitar and banjo. David was inspired by the music of Jerry Reed, whom he idolized. He also loved dirt bikes and especially riding at the family farm in Groton, NH.
Caring for others was a part of his spirit. He volunteered at the Grinell Elementary School as well as with the Northeast Passage Power Soccer program at UNH for people with disabililties of all ages. He also participated in the TREK program at Partners in Health.
He leaves his parents, David and Michelle (Lego) Catanzaro of Hampstead, one sister who he absolutely adored with his whole heart, Courtney Catanzaro of Hampstead, grandparents; Sal and Gail (Tansey) Catanzaro of Exeter and Groton; grandmother Annie Lego of Salem and grandfather Edwin Lego of Turner’s Falls, MA; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial Calling hours were held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 11am to 1:30pm at the Peabody Funeral Home, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A celebration of David’s life was conducted at 1:30 by Rev. Miriam Acevedo, with reflections and readings of David’s poetry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Northeast Passage Power Soccer fund 107 Hewitt Hall, Durham, NH 03824.
