OBITUARY

Fitchburg, Rutland, Vt.

Doris M. (Porter) Miller, 86, died at home Thursday April 29, after an illness.
Doris was born in Lowell, July 23, 1923, the daughter of Frederick E. and
Emily C. (White) Porter. She grew up in Lowell and graduated from Lowell
High School in 1940. She graduated from Fitchburg State College with a
B.S. in Education. She earned her Master's degree in Arts and English from
the University of Vermont in 1961. She took courses at Keene, N.H. State
College and Boston University.
Doris was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority International, the
Vermont Retired Teachers Association and the Society of Women
Educators.
Doris was an English High School teacher and taught for 37 years in
Princeton, Ma. Littleton, N.H., Winchendon, Ma. Proctor and Rutland,
Vermont. She retired in 1985.
Doris was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland and Christ
Eipiscopal Church in Fitchburg.
Doris leaves her nieces and nephews, Rev. F. Calvin Miller, George and
Robert Miller, George and Glenn Kinney, Ann Shoesmith, Neysa Jean
Packard, Charles "Chuck" Miller and Lyn D. Miller. She also leaves her
sister-in-law Neysa Miller who was her primary care giver.
Doris's husband of fifty years William R. Miller died May 9, 1999. Her
brother Frederick R. Porter died November 9, 1984. Her sister Amy E.
Kinney died February 20, 2006.
A funeral service for Doris will be held on Tuesday May 4, at 10:00A.M. in
the Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. Fitchburg. Burial will follow in
Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday May 3,
from 5 to 8 P.M. Contributions in her name may be made to Health Alliance
