Obituary

Thomas P. Birmingham, 84, of Quincy MA. Formerly of Osterville, MA and St. Petersburg, Florida and Weston, Connecticut passed away peacefully at the Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center on April 29th. Born in Hartford, CT on September 30, 1925, he was the son of Stephen and Gertrude Birmingham and spent his life striving to learn, achieve, and give back. He attended Exeter Academy, and on his 18th birthday, joined the Navy as a Meteorologist on the combat escort carrier, USS Chenango. After World War II, he received a BA from Princeton University and later a JD from Harvard Law School during which time he married Alison Rood of Briarcliff Manor, NY, on June 23, 1951. He went on to obtain an MBA from NYU Business School and an MS in Taxation from Pace University. His career revolved around the insurance/investment banking world with Phoenix Mutual in Hartford, CT and Teacher’s Insurance, E.F. Hutton, and SoGen-Swiss International in New York, NY. After moving from Weston, CT to St. Petersburg, FL, he continued his legal practice. Throughout the years, he gave back to his community through various volunteer activities including the Weston Board of Education, Weston Little League Baseball, Princeton Schools Committee, Adjunct Professor of Finance at Eckerd College, AARP Tax Service to the elderly, the Isla del Sol Bridge Committee, and more. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Alison (Rood); four children, Alison Birmingham (Geoffrey Spelman) of Seattle, Lucy Birmingham of Tokyo, Carolyn Birmingham Dodd (Richard Dodd) of Bethesda, MD, and Tom Birmingham (Amy Killeen) of Canton, MA; and grandchildren, Leah & Elliott Spelman, Seiya, Nina, & Sachi Fujii, and Sam & Ethan Dodd. Relatives & friends invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Saturday morning May 8th at 10:30,followed by a memorial/reception at the Brookmeadow Country Club, 100 Everendon Rd., Canton, MA. Burial private. In lieu of flowers,donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Assn 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472
