Obituary

TAUNTON – John “Ed” Hickey Jr., died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on April 29, 2010.
He was the husband of the late Marion L. (Brown) Hickey.
Born in Fall River eighty-one years ago, he was the son of the late John E. and Mary (Perry) Hickey.
He moved to Taunton with his family in 1933 where he was an altar server at the former St. Joseph Church.
Mr. Hickey served as a draftsman with the U.S. Army during WW II, and later during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed by Conrail as a heavy equipment operator for 44 years, retiring in 1988, and also worked for some time as a timekeeper for General Bronze.
A communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and avid reader, Mr. Hickey was an astronomy and telescope enthusiast, and enjoyed shortwave radios.
He will be remembered for his handmade, scale replicas of famous ships, which he fashioned from scratch.
Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Hickey and his wife Lorraine of Concord, NH and John E. Hickey, III of Taunton; a daughter, Mary E. Baptiste of Taunton; a brother, George Hickey of Taunton; a sister, Helena Desrosiers of FL; three grandchildren, Mark Baptiste, II, and Andrea Baptiste, both of Taunton, and Aaron Hickey of Concord, NH; a great grandchild, Devin Baptiste; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Patricia Andrade. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Monday, May 3rd at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Kilmer Ave. at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Cedar Knoll Cemetery, East Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m.
