Obituary

Eleanor Rolfe Bruso died peacefully at the Salemhaven Nursing and Rehab Center on April 28, 2010.

She was born on June 12, 1918 in Salem, NH at the Smith residence on Main Street and was the daughter of the late Emma (Smith) and Harold Rolfe. She was predeceased by her brother, Cpl. Fred Rolfe, who was killed in action in Germany in 1945. Eleanor was the widow of the late Francis Bruso. She graduated from Central High School in Providence Rhode Island in 1936. She joined the Army of the United States in 1943, serving in the capacity of Captain. Eleanor received the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Meritorious Service Unit Plaque and the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps Service Medal.

Eleanor was employed at the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in Manchester, NH and retired in 1981. She was a resident in the City of Manchester, NH for over 40 years, where she was very active in her community serving as the past president on the Manchester Women’s Club, on the Board of Directors for the Gale Home and as a volunteer for Easter Seals. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Manchester, NH.

She is survived by her beloved and devoted niece and nephew, Betty and Ron Oldeman of Salem, NH, who were her caregivers, great nephews Ryan Oldeman, Scott Oldeman and Justin Oldeman of Salem, NH, her niece, Beryl (Oldeman) Cobb and her husband Sam of Tyler, TX and her cousin Mildred Dominy of Plattsburg, NY.

Eleanor also leaves many friends in Manchester, NH. She will be remembered as a generous soul who was always there to give a helping hand to those in need and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Eleanor’s family would like to express their thanks to Grace at the Visiting Angels and to the staffs of the Salemhaven Nursing and Rehab Center and Beacon Hospice for their kindness and care that she received from them.

Visitation will be held Friday April 30 from 10:00 AM to12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem.
