Bernard Lawrence Deveau, 80, of Voluntown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday.
He was born in Mystic on February 19, 1930 the son of Ambrose J. Deveau Sr. and Mary (Barnes) Deveau. He was a graduate of Fitch High School. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He also served in the New London Army National Guard.
A former resident of Mystic, he was a well known area Blasting Specialist in the area. He was a member of Local # 478 Union of Operating Engineers. He was also one of the oldest living Judges of the UKC (United Kennel Club) and was a member of the Jewett City VFW Post and the Elks. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and stock car racing.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Mazo of CA, Carolynn Yerkes of Voluntown with whom he made his home, and Pamela Delaney of VA; his brothers, Ambrose J. Deveau Jr. of FL, and Robert Deveau of Mystic;6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Bernard L. Deveau.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 2-4pm. A Graveside Service with presentation of military honors will be held on Monday at 11am at Elm Grove Cemetery, Rte. 27, Mystic.
