Pinellas Park, FL: Robert P. Morency age 93 of Salem and of Pinellas, Park, died unexpectedly, at his home in Florida on Monday, April 26, 2010. He was the husband of Carolyn L. Powers-Morency.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Leo J. and Dorilla (Genderon) Morency. Shortly before World War II, he joined his father in the roofing and sheet-metal business, Leo J. Morency Roofing Co., which he owned and operated until his retirement.
An avid boater, he was a life member of the Jubilee Yacht Club of Beverly and over the years served as Commodore for 5 years. He also served as Commodore of the Mass. Bay Yachting Association, for a year. He, along with Don Kent, formed the Northeast Surf Patrol and Bob served as its Commodore for 10 years. During his boating years, Bob was a weekly contributor to the former Beverly Times and Lynn Sunday Post, as well as having several articles published in various boating periodicals.
During the winter months, Bob, devoted 27 years as an accredited Hockey Official working games from New Hampshire to Connecticut for High Schools, Prep Schools, College and amateur leagues. He was a member of the Eastern Hockey Officials Assoc. and the Amateur Officials Assoc. Bob also coached for Danvers High and Salem State College. Bob was a 50 year member of the Salem YMCA.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by a son, Robert J. Morency of Salem, his sister, Evelyn T. LeBlanc of Salem, 3 grandchildren, Debra LeBrun-Lopes, James Daniel LeBrun & Diedre LeBrun-Steers, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby (McAuley) Morency, 2 daughters, Jean F. LeBrun & Roberta A. Morency, and his brother Eugene H. Morency.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 8 a.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by his funeral mass in Ste.
