FALL RIVER … SGT. Robert J. “Rob” Barrett, 20, killed in action April 19, 2010 while serving in Afghanistan. He was a member of the Alpha Battery 101st Artillery, from the Dwelly Street Armory.
He was born in Fall River a son of Paul T. and Carlene A. (Galloway) Barrett of Fall River and had been a life long resident of this city.
Rob was a 2007 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School where he was the Commanding Officer of the J.R.O.T.C. and head of their Honor Guard. While serving in the Massachusetts National Guard he was a member of the Massachusetts Volunteer 54th Regiment Honor Guard Unit for 2 years. He was part of the honor guard at the Presidential Inauguration of President Barack Obama.
Survivors include his parents, a daughter Sophie Alexandra Barrett, a sister Rebecca Barrett, maternal grandmother Sue (Oliveira) Galloway, paternal grandmother Laura (Lacerda) Barrett, many aunts, uncle, and cousins. He was the grandson of the late Robert Galloway and John Barrett.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Saturday at 11 AM from the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, Spring Street, Fall River. Interment with full military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Massachusetts. Calling hours Friday 4 – 9 PM in the auditorium at B.M.C. Durfee High School. Arrangements are under the direction of the SOUTH COAST FUNERAL HOME, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River.
