Mrs. Jeannette C. (Hatfield) Shockley, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 25th at the McGraw Hospice Center in Jacksonville, FL, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 30, 1930 in Everett, Massachusetts, and was a lifelong resident of Massachusetts until she moved to Jacksonville in July, 2009. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lena Hawkins, her stepfather, Edward Hawkins, her father, Peter Hatfield, and her husband of 43 years, John E. Shockley. She was an executive secretary for many years before retiring from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in 1988. She is survived by her children, Linda (Larry) Powell of Jacksonville, FL, Wayne (Paula) Shockley of Kissimmee, FL and Laura Gharghour of Pembroke, MA, by her eight grandchildren, Kristen (Kenny) Beers of St. Petersburg, FL, John (Lauren) Snowden, Brian (Tiffany) Powell and Kelly Powell of Jacksonville FL, Jesse Nelson and Haley Shockley of Kissimmee, FL, and T.J. and Nicole Gharghour of Pembroke, MA, and by her two great-grandchildren, Maddie and Forrest Beers of St. Petersburg, FL.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and "Memere". She enjoyed dancing and bowling in her younger years, and oh, how she loved to laugh! No one who knew her will ever forget her laugh. She always loved caring and cooking for her family, and her spaghetti sauce was the stuff of legend! Her family and her many friends will miss her greatly.
Visiting hours were held on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, MA. Many relatives and friends attended. A graveside service was conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 3, 2010, at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake Street, Peabody, MA.
