Obituary

Detrick, Edward E.

The last of the five “Berry Boulevard” Detrick kids rounded third base and headed for home on Friday April 23rd, 2010. Born on September 21st, 1917 in Louisville, KY, Ed was 92 years old. In the eyes of his family, a better husband, dad and grandpa could not be found.
Events in his life included playing baseball in his youth in Shawnee Park, which created a love for the game that he never lost interest in and which seemed to link us all to the sport. His days as a Golden Gloves boxer probably had much to do with his determined style. Working at the 1939 Worlds Fair in New York City, acting on stage there as well as in the Catskills and Louisville, made theatre and anything New York two loves that were as much a part of him as his thick head of hair.
Following New York, he was a pilot in World War II, flying “The Hump” between Burma and China in the Army Air Corps. After the war he owned and operated several Key Market grocery stores in the Louisville area, eventually settling into a career in the real estate and insurance business. He and his wife Dorothy built a wonderful home in Audubon Park.
He has been married for 64 years to his loving wife, Dorothy, and is survived by her. Also missing him are his sons Doug (Cathy), children Michael and Lauren and Ki (Carol), children Erin, Emily and Julie.

- We love you Pappy!

Cremation was selected. A celebration of his life will be held soon. Expressions of sympathy can be made to their lifelong church, St. James United of Christ.
