Paul Shelton Smith, 73, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, April 26, 2010, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 29 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Farise Taylor and Rev. Joe Sannutti officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Smith was born July 13, 1936 in Fitzgerald to the late Lamar and Ruby Smith. He grew up in Fitzgerald, moving to Gastonia, NC in 1960 and back to Fitzgerald in 1973. Mr. Smith was a former truck driver for Wal-Mart and former owner/operator of Smith Excavating Company. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War era. Mr. Smith was a member of the South Georgia Mopar Association and the Ocilla Country Club. He attended the Church Of The Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife: Rachel Davis Smith of Fitzgerald; sons and daughters-in-law: Jeffrey & Nickie Smith of Fitzgerald and Nathan & Sharon Smith of Statesboro; grandchildren: Ava Smith and Josh & Henrietta Hand; 3 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Wayne & Mary Smith and David Smith, all of Fitzgerald and Edward & Deloris Smith of Tomball, TX, as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Blevins and a brother, Donald Smith.
