Mr. James R. Herra, age 56, passed away October 13th, in Las Vegas, NV following a lengthy illness. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Bernice (LeVasseur) and John Herra. Mr. Herra worked for over ten years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1964 to 1967 and was recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr Herra served as a Past Commander of the D.A.V. Chapter 27 of Somerville and was also a Past Commander of D.A.V. District 3. He was a life member of the George Dilboy Post of Somerville. For recreation he enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with his family. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the D.A.V. 616 Broadway, Somerville, MA 02145 or to the Kevin C. Soldani Scholarship Fund c/o Medford Cooperative Bank 60 High St. Medford, MA 02155.
Mr. Herra is survived by his son Paul J. and his wife Virginia of Medford, two daughters, Julie A. LeBlanc and her husband Derek of Wilmington and Janice M. Herra of Gloucester. Former husband of Nancy M. (Marchetti) of Medford. He is also survived by three loving grandsons, Matthew Herra, Ryan and Adam LeBlanc. Mr. Herra is further survived by his siblings; Joanne Leard of Vermont, Mary Hardy of New Hampshire, Daniel and Kevin Donahue. He is preceded in death by his sister Jacqueline Dunleavey and brothers Richard and Walter Herra.
A memorial service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Saturday evening, October 25th, at 8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Saturday from 2-4 & 6-8.
