WORCESTER___Zdzislaw J. "Chet" Bartkiewicz, 59, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010 surrounded by his loving family in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, after a short courageous battle with colon cancer. He leaves his mother, Lucy Bartkiewicz, with whom he lived; five brothers, Bernie of Burbank, CA, Bogdan and his wife, Charlene of Webster, Mickey and his wife, Doreen of Worcester, Richard of Webster and Stanley of Hubbardston and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Bartkiewicz, who died in 1986.
Mr. Bartkiewicz was born in Heilbronn, Germany, moving to Worcester in 1957. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Doherty High School. He served in the US Army, as a radio repairman in Taiwan during the Vietnam War. Chet was a bartender for 17 years at the PNI Club where he was a also a lifelong member. He was also a member of the White Eagle Association and Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Chet was an avid sports fan, who loved to play softball and basketball. He also enjoyed bowling. Chet loved his family and life. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile, sense of humor and will be sadly missed by all.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 29, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester with a Mass at 12:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
