Obituary

Pembroke – Reginald H. Grover, Sr. 96 died Saturday April 24 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late E. Frances (Thomas) Grover.

Mr. Grover was born in Halifax on August 10, 1913 the son of the late E. Lawrence and Mildred (Wentworth) Grover. He graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1930, served in the US Navy during World War II, and was discharged in 1945. In November, 1943, he married E. Frances Thomas from Whitman, MA.

He built a home on Mattakeesett Street in Pembroke where he lived with his wife and family for the remainder of his life.

A master carpenter and cabinet maker, he was a lead carpenter in the restoration of the birthplace of General Sylvanus Thayer, the founder of West Point. The home is open to the public on the campus of Thayer Academy in Braintree. He was the builder of many custom homes in the south shore area.

In the latter part of his career, he was a general construction superintendent who supervised the building of a number of high-rise Housing for the Elderly projects.

He was a 60 year member of the Masons and the Wampatuck Lodge in Hanson. An accomplished gardener, he was a guest on several local radio programs, and his cabinet making skills were well known in the area

Mr. Grover was predeceased in 2005 by his wife of 61 years to whom he was devoted. Also predeceasing him were four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by a son, Reginald H. Grover, Jr. of Old Saybrook, CT, a daughter, Dianne Chuckran of Naples, FL, two grandchildren, Katharine Grover of Boston, and Susan Grover of Newton Centre, MA, and one brother, Albert Grover of Kent, WA.

At his and the family’s request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will held at the Wampatuck Lodge of Masons in Hanson on a date to be announced.
