Clara (Ramalho) Camara, 87, of Norton passed away peacefully on Sunday April 25, 2010 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Americo F. Camara to whom she was wed for over 63 years at the time of his death on April 20, 2004
Born in Lowell, MA on April 19, 1923 she was a loving daughter of the late Antonio and Emily (St. Joseph) Ramalho.
Clara grew up in Lowell and was educated in Lowell Schools. She later attended the Brockton Beauty Academy.
A self-employed Beautician, she operated her business from her home for 42 years before retiring in 1989. She had made her home in Norton for 69 years.
A dedicated communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, she was involved in many church activities including being a former member of the Catholic Women’s Club. Her other memberships included the Norton Senior Citizens and the P.E.A.L. Club, an organization in the greater Norton and Attleboro area.
Clara’s passion in life was dancing and she, along with her late husband were avid worldwide travelers and enjoyed spending over 10 years wintering in Portugal as well as trips taken to Hawaii and throughout Europe. Mrs. Camara especially enjoyed spending time with her adoring family, especially her grandchildren and her family was recently by her side to celebrate her 87th birthday. Clara will always be remembered for her exceptional cooking and baking skills She is survived by her devoted children Nancy L. Hamilton of Norton, Sandra J. Daft and her husband William of North Attleboro and Dennis Port and Dennis J. Camara of Attleboro and Tamarac, Florida. She was the cherished grandmother of Steven J. Pappalardo of Norton and Alison L. Pappalardo of North Attleboro and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister Delia Silva and her brother John Ramalho.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday April 29th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday April 28th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Clara’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Activities Fund at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home 85 North Washington St. North Attleboro, MA 02760.
