Kenneth P. Moore Jr. 80, a Franklin resident since 1959, died peacefully Friday April 23, 2010 at the Franklin Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness. He was the husband of Helen S. (McCormack ) Moore.
Born in Putnam, CT., February 26, 1930 a son of the late Kenneth P. Moore Sr. and Helen M. (Johnston) Moore, he was raised and educated in Boston. A mechanical engineer by trade, he retired from the Wilton Corporation where he had been employed as the eastern states sales representative.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Japan) and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He was a member and past grand knight of Scared Heart Council Knights of Columbus in Franklin, and a 4th Degree member of Edward Douglas White General Assembly Knights of Columbus in Attleboro. He was a former head usher and longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin, and was a life member of the Franklin Country Club where he started the Legends Club. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Country View Estates bowling league, and enjoyed hockey, softball, gardening and the Red Sox.
Mr. & Mrs. Moore were married on April 16, 1955, and observed their 55th wedding anniversary last week.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Sharon M. Moore-Bell and her husband Louis of Clearwater, Florida, a brother William Moore of Bellingham, and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Scarlatta and Marguerite Welch-Byrne.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Tuesday April 27th, at 10:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. www.franklinfuneral.com , with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 11AM.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
