Richard E. Hart, 84, of Portsmouth, RI died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. He was husband of the late Virginia W. (Thompson) Hart.
Born in Tiverton, son of the late Ellery P. and Ethel A. (Carter) Hart, he had lived in the Tiverton / Portsmouth area his entire life. A WWII veteran, he served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as an air traffic controller at Kiesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. He graduated from Durfee Technical Institute with a degree in chemistry. Prior to retirement, he was a Dye Lab Technician at the former I.C.I. in Dighton. Mr. Hart also worked and as a chemical analyst at George Mann Company in Providence. An avid amateur radio operator, he was a member of the Amateur Radio Re-Lay League and the Newport County Radio Club. He was a lifelong member of the former Central Baptist Church in Tiverton.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Paula W. Hart of Tavernier, FL and Pamela J. Gaston of Portsmouth; a brother: Harold C. Hart of Tiverton; a sister: Edith E. Healy of Tiverton; 2 grandchildren: Jason A. Gaston and Jared A. Gaston; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Tuesday 5 – 8 P.M.
Interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton.
