Joseph Edward “Ed” Puckett, 58, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, April 22, 2010, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, April 25, 2010 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with The Rev Dewain Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in Mystic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Saturday night at the funeral home.
Mr. Puckett was born February 28, 1952 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Ralph James and Louise Riddle Puckett. After graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1970, he immediately enlisted in the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He was a retired truck driver with more than 30 years of service. A member of the Fitzgerald Church of God, he sang in the choir. A supporter of youth athletics, Mr. Puckett coached for the Department of Leisure Services, football and baseball programs. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and fisherman.
Mr. Puckett is survived by his wife: Brenda Diane Cox Puckett of Fitzgerald, children; Tracy & Jamie Johnson of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, Niki & Ric Stepp of Fitzgerald, Kelly & James Brady of Wilcox County, Melissa Puckett of Fitzgerald and Tammy & Andy Gan of Woodstock; 10 Grandchildren, two sisters; Faye Walker of Fitzgerald and Janice Diles of Keysville, GA, several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Puckett.
