Obituary

Southbridge- Lawrence P. Swedis, 51, of 12 Ellis Rd., died Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Harrington Memorial Hospital, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 28 years, Lenora R. (Billings) Swedis; two sons, Paul M. Swedis and Brian J. Swedis, both of Southbridge; several nephews and nieces. A brother, Thomas W. Swedis, died in 1989. He was born in Worcester, son of Julius and Anna (Burdulis) Swedis, and lived there before moving to Southbridge 18 years ago. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School and Worcester State College, both in Worcester.

Mr. Swedis worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Employment and Training for 27 years, most recently as a Moses Coordinator in Boston.

He was a former member of St. Casimir Church, Worcester, where he had served as an altar boy. He was a former Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop 160, Southbridge.

Mr. Swedis was one of the founding fathers of Mythical Journeys and After the Fall.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel- St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in the funeral home.
