John T. “Jake” Horn, Jr., 68, died Monday, April 19, 2010 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the loving husband of Lynne (Goodwin) Horn, with whom he shared forty-five years of marriage.
Born in Winchester on May 18, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Louise Dawn (Murphy) Horn. He was raised and educated in Winchester and was a graduate of Winchester High School, where he was class president of the Class of 1959. Mr. Horn served in the US Army during the Vietnam era and attended the Wentworth Institute.
For nearly twenty years, he owned and operated Malden Door & Window Co., Inc. He had previously been employed at Brockway Smith Co. in Andover.
A Danvers resident for 42 years, Mr. Horn was past president of Danvers Youth Hockey and was active in founding Danvers Youth Soccer. A member of the Danvers Touchdown Club, he was the 1990 recipient of the Contribution to Youth Award. He was a longtime member of Maple Street Congregational Church, where he taught Sunday School for several years and was a former member of the Malden Rotary Club.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Karen Horn of Danvers, and three sons, Steven Horn and his wife Lisa of Danvers, Robert Horn and his wife Heather of Danvers, and Christian Horn of Calif, four grandchildren, Rebecca, Emily, Connor, and Caroline Horn, a sister, Deborah Carroll of Seabrook, NH, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dawn Farrow and Judith Walsh.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10AM in the Maple Street Congregational Church, Danvers. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
