Lawrence R. Harkins, 62

Dateline: North Attleboro, MA

Lawrence R. Harkins, recently of North Attleboro formerly of Norton and Pawtucket passed away on Sunday April 18, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Born in Boston, MA on October 13, 1947 he was a son of the late Francis J. and Catherina W. (Daems) Harkins.
Larry grew up in the Hyde Park section of Boston, was educated in Hyde Park schools and went on to graduate from Northeastern University where he received his Bachelors Degree in Engineering. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era prior to being honorably discharged.
For the past several years Mr. Harkins had worked as a Customer Shuttle Driver at Boch Honda in Norwood and had formerly been employed for many years at the former Codex Co. in Mansfield and at Raytheon in Norwood.
Prior to living in North Attleboro he was a 2 year resident of Norton and formerly lived for several years in Pawtucket, RI.
Larry’s favorite times were those spent in the presence of his loving children and grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, to which he belonged to bowling leagues while living in Rhode Island. He was an avid fisherman and will always be remembered for the kind ways in which he treated animals.
He is survived by his devoted children Lauren M. Flipp and her husband Shawn of Middleboro, Lawrence R. Harkins of Easton, Victoria M. Harkins of Michigan and Korey R. Harkins of New Hampshire. He was the dear brother of Raymond Harkins of Florida, Caroline Dolan of Norton and Deborah Racicot of New Hampshire. Larry is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Laura and Erin Harkins and Kyle and Rylie Flipp. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins including family members in Holland.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday April 23rd from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home at the conclusion of visitation. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, Larry’s family has requested that contributions in his memory be made to the Memorial and Honor Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 Saint Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
