William Couto, 81, of Little Compton, RI died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at home, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle against cancer. He was husband of the late Joanne B. (Jean) Couto.
Born in Westport, son of the late Manuel R. and Marion (Ouellette) Couto, he had lived in the Westport/Adamsville area his entire life. He served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Couto was a musician, playing the bass with Joanne and The Town & Country 4. Prior to retirement, he had worked at Sakonnet Vineyards in Little Compton. He was the owner /operator of Delken Laundromat in Fall River and the owner of Halls Music Shop in Fall River and had also worked for Dixon Vault and worked security and maintenance for Director Shipyard in Middletown, RI. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include 3 sons: Michael W. Couto of Bristol, William Couto, Jr. of Westport and David A. Couto of Little Compton; 2 daughters: Lori L. Huyler of Westport and Jodi A. Ibbotson of Little Compton; a sister: Lorraine Belanger of Fall River; his companion: Delores; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was father of the late: David Anthony Couto, grandfather of the late Gabriel A. Couto and brother of the late: Hilda Viveiros, Evelyn Boyd and Adele Jean.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Little Compton United Congregational Church, Little Compton at 11:00 A.M.
