DWYER, Dorothy (nee: McKee) of Ft. Washington, MD formerly a resident of Teaneck, NJ for 57 years, died peacefully on Tuesday April 13, 2010. Born in Chambersburg, PA she attended the Philadelphia Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing. A veteran of WWII, she served for 3.5 years in the US Army Nurse Corps with the 93rd Army Evacuation Hospital. She saw action in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. She was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Dorothy returned to the United States in September of 1945 wearing the European Campaign medal with Bronze Arrowhead for participation in four invasions, and six campaign battle stars. She worked at Englewood Hospital as an intensive care nurse for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold Dwyer (1967) and devoted mother of Margaret Hibler and husband Neil of Ft. Washington, MD and Kathleen Monahan and husband Michael of Ramsey, NJ. Dear grandmother to Michael Hibler, Kathleen Pickard, and Megan, Susan, and Kevin Monahan. Great grandmother to Mattox and Adam Hibler, along with Elle and Caulder Pickard. Dorothy was a parishoner and Rosary member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Hackensack, NJ. Additionally, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Volk Leber Funeral Home 789 Teaneck Rd Teaneck, NJ. A funeral service will commence this Friday at 9AM from Volk Leber, then to Holy Trinity RCC for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30AM. Visitation will be this evening only from 7 to 9PM. Burial will take place next Monday at 11AM within Gettysburg National Cemetery - Gettysburg, PA.
