Mildred N. (Dawson) Burns, age 93, wife of the late John Bernard Burns, died Thursday morning April 8, 2010.
She was born in Lowell on July 13, 1916, a daughter of the late James Michael Dawson and Annie Frances (Russell) Dawson from Ireland.
Mildred had been a resident of Lowell most of her life and most recently a resident of Chelmsford.
Mrs. Burns was educated by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart at the Immaculate Conception High School and was a graduate of Lowell Commercial College, 1935. She was employed as a crossing guard supervisor for the City of Lowell and for many years at the Union National Bank in Lowell.
She was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church, an active member of the League of Catholic Woman and volunteered regularly for the Ladies of St. John’s.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her sons, Patrick John Burns of Chelmsford and James Russell Burns of Chelmsford; her daughters, Mary Lappin and her husband Paul and Eileen O’Neil and her husband Walter both of Lowell; her grandchildren, Vanessa Burns, Andrew and Jessica Lappin, Shannon and Callie O’Neil; her greatgrandchildren, Christopher, John, Samantha Mae and Brook Emily as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her most beloved sisters, Mary Owens, Doris Sullivan and Rita Sayer.
BURNS- Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning, April 12 from 9 to 10:30 at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH ST. LOWELL (Rte 38) to be followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 o’clock at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in memory of Mildred be made to Lowell Remarkable Able Resilient Active Adults (RARA), 295 High Street, Lowell, MA. 01852. Arrangements are by the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, LOWELL.
