Obituary

Edmund "Eddie" Costa, 84, of Lawrence, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 11th, 2010 after a long illness.

He was a decorated WWII Veteran served in both European and American Theaters of War receiving the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

Ed was a sports enthusiast, he played softball in Lawrence and was well known for his pitching. According to his family he had a wicked curve ball and played until age 58. Athletic Leagues, was voted most valuable player the last year he played. Enjoyed watching New England proteam sports on television.

He enjoyed going to the Rockingham Park and Foxwoods. He was always very active in State and Local Politics, all his life. He ran for mayor of Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1969. Former Lawrence City Councilor, Nunzio DeMarco, referred to him as the "Soul of the City of Lawrence" for his dedication and passion for the city he lived in all his life.

He was an owner of two businesses in Lawrence; Ford's Tavern - one of the oldest taverns in the city and Herbert J. Allen's (Bruno's Cafe) for many years. After retiring from his business, he went to work at the Lawrence Public Library and Lawrence School Department. He retired from the school department when he was working at the Emily Wetherbee School. He loved the Wetherbee so much, he put his heart and soul into his job.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years Sophia C.(Alexion) Costa and his loving daughter Lynndiane Costa of Lawrence, MA
His Sister: Beatrice Talaschuk of Londonderry, NH
As well as several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother to the late Helen Diazzo, Dorothy Sarcione, Anthony Costa and Everett "Babe" Costa.
