Obituary

Sister Mary Goodwin (formerly Sister M. John Bosco), 75, a Sister of Mercy for 55 years, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, after a long illness. A native of East Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of James and Mary Beatrice (Walsh) Goodwin.

Sister Mary received a B.A. degree in education from Mount Saint Mary College, Hooksett, New Hampshire; and M.A. degrees in special education and pastoral ministry from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, Connecticut. She taught at elementary schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, including St. Joseph School and Mount Saint Mary Day School in Manchester; St. Mary Academy, Dover; St. Mary School, Claremont; and Sacred Heart School, Nashua, all in New Hampshire. She also taught at St. Ann School, Gloucester, Massachusetts.

After completing her studies in pastoral ministry, Sister Mary served as pastoral minister at St. Francis Home in Laconia, New Hampshire. For 12 years she was director of religious education at St. Patrick Parish in Pelham.

Family members include a brother, James R. Goodwin of Lynn, Massachusetts; a sister, Judith Alakoski of Melbourne, Florida; a cousin, Nancy Marlowe, of Ipswich, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Virginia.

Friends may call at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, N.H., on Wednesday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at the Warde Health Center. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH
