Worcester - Richard J. Mitchell, Jr., age 66, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, in Saint Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 44 years, Judith L. (Stevens) Mitchell; a son and three daughters, Melinda G., Doreen L., Wendy J., and David M. Mitchell all of Worcester; 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Brittany, Courtney, and Madison; a step-brother, Daryl J. Brooks of CA; a sister, Debra A. Law of CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Michael Mitchell and his beloved dog, Mickey.
Richard was born in Worcester, son of Marion (Marrah) and Richard J. Mitchell, Sr. He was a graduate of St. Peter Central Catholic High School. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and past member of the Lodge of Elks. He was the owner of Kozy Korner's Spa for 10 years and worked at M & M Catering. He also worked at the snack shack at Cyprian Keys in Boylston and was a cook at Anna Maria Rest Home. Richard enjoyed summers at Old Orchard Beach, fishing, golfing, billiards, casinos, and the Red Sox. He was a professional bowler and won many trophies and awards for his talent.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Weds., April 14, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at First Congregational Church, 1070 Pleasant Street on Thurs., April 15, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church or the American Diabetes Assn., 330 Congress St., Boston MA 02210.
