New Bedford-Mariana (Rocha) Pavao age 87 years, died Saturday at Sippican Healthcare with her loved ones at her side. She was the widow of Joao Arruda Pavao. Mariana was the loved mother of Nisalda Ferreira and Eulalia Botelho wife of John all of Brockton, MA., Jose M. Pavao husband of Adriana and Ana DaRocha wife of Manuel all of New Bedford, Deborah Camara wife of Victor of Somerville, MA. and the late Joao Jose Alves Arruda. Mariana was the sister of Joao Francisco Rocha of Providence, RI., Almerinda Monte of New Bedford, Maria Teresa Homen of São Miguel Açores and the late Manuel DaRocha and Maria Lourdes Cardosa. She is also survived by 16 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pavao was the daughter of the late Joao Francisco and Maria Isabel (Machado) DaRocha She was born in Mosteiros, São Miguel, Açores came to this country in 1963. Mariana lived in both Somerville and New Bedford. While in Somerville she worked as a housekeeper for the Grey Nuns in their Convent in Lexington MA.
Mrs. Pavao’s funeral will be from Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Tuesday at 8 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 5-8 P.M.
