Obituary

Richard Charles Paul “Butch” Comeau, 70, of Hamilton St., Woonsocket, passed away Thursday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence with his family at his side.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Oscar F. and Eva A. (Bartholomey) Comeau. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Butch was an active member and employee of the Rhode Island Association for Retarded Citizens for over 50 years. He was an avid athlete participating regularly in the Rhode Island Special Olympics where he obtained numerous medals for his ability in both sprinting and softball throw competitions.
A very social and involved member of his community, Butch could regularly be found at Roger’s Barber Shop keeping company with the owner, and his longtime friend, Roger Benoit.
Butch’s family is very grateful for the care and support he received in the group home where he resided. The many friends who loved and cared for Butch during his life are considered part of his extended family.
Butch is survived by his brother, Robert O. Comeau of Woonsocket, two nieces, Christa Comeau of Boston, and Patricia Moore of Cranston, a nephew, Anthony Comeau of Pawtucket, and a great-nephew Blaine Gelhaar of Boston.
His funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Agatha Church, Joffre Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Monday from 6-8 pm.
