Peter A. Spaulding, 60

Dateline: Norton, MA

Peter A. Spaulding, 60, of Norton passed away peacefully at home on Thursday April 8, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary (Lasher) Spaulding.
Born in Rothenburg, Germany on February 26, 1950 he was a dear son of Margot (Pfeiffer) Spaulding of Westborough and the late Richard M. Spaulding, Sr.
Peter spent his early childhood living in Germany until the age of 7 when his family moved to the United States. His family first settled in Brookline and later moved to Sharon where he grew up and was educated and was a 1968 graduate of Sharon High School. Following graduation Peter proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged on May 21, 1971 with the rank of SP5.
Mr. Spaulding was a Transmission Mechanic and had been employed for many years at Bill’s Auto Repair in Easton. He was also the former owner of A&M Transmission Repair which was also located in Easton.
An active communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton he was a former parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Easton and Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton where he was involved in the church choirs.
Peter’s passion in life was music and in addition to be a talented singer he also played the guitar and bass guitar. He was also an avid gardener who enjoyed growing vegetables and had the ability to fix just about anything. He loved spending time in the presence of his adoring family, had a special place in his heart for animals and always put others first. A resident of Norton for the past 12 years, he had formerly made his home for many years in Mansfield and Sharon.
In addition to his beloved wife and dear mother he is survived by his devoted children Jennifer L. Nottage and her husband Bradley of South Attleboro, Christopher J. Canton of Arlington, VA and Kerry R. Canton, a member of the Peace Core in Zambia, Africa. He was the loving brother of Gabriele Spaulding of British Columbia, Richard M. Spauldiing, Jr. of Darnestown, Maryland and Cathryn S. Pappas of West Roxbury and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Elijah and Alyana as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday April 12th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Military honors will be held at the conclusion of the funeral and burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday April 11th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Peter’s family has requested that contributions in his memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church Building Fund 1 Power St. Norton, MA 02766 or the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
