TAUNTON – Manuel S. Melo, husband of Cimoceia (Borges) Melo, died at Morton Hospital & Medical Center on April 6, 2010.
He was 79.
Born in Fayal, Azores, he was the son of the late Humberto and Maria daGloria (Barcamonte) Melo.
Raised and educated in Fayal, he moved to the Taunton area with his family in 1967.
A precision drill press operator employed by the Foxboro Company, Mr. Melo concurrently worked for the U.S. Postal Service, sorting mail at the Norton branch.
He retired 1993.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Mr. Melo enjoyed soccer and was a passionate fan of Benfica of Lisbon.
Besides his wife of Taunton, he leaves a son, Humberto “Bert” Melo and his wife Mary of New Bedford; a brother Hernani Melo of Terceira, Azores; two grandchildren, Kurt Melo and his wife Mellissa of Taunton, and Joia Melo of VA; three great grandchildren, Jordan, Mason and Kayden Melo, all of Taunton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Friday April 9th at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday April 8th from 6 to 8 p.m.
