SALEM - Louis A. DeFrancisco, 86, husband of the late Ella (Worsencroft) DeFrancisco, of Stoughton, formerly of Salem, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at his residence.
Born in Danvers, he was the son of the late Donato and Josephine (Giovanni) DiFrancesco. He was a resident of Salem for most of his life until moving to Stoughton in 2005.
A US Marines Corps veteran of WWII, he served in the Pacific and was authorized to wear three bronze stars on the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon for the various campaigns in which he served.
Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was employed at the US Post Office for 32 years at Logan Airport. In his retirement years he worked for Colonial Carriage Company and was a funeral home assistant for Full-Spychalski Funeral Home.
Mr. DeFrancisco was an active parishioner of the former St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem, where he worked the weekly bingo games. He also volunteered at various other bingo games in the area and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Foxwoods.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Bobbi DeFrancisco of Sharon, two grandchildren, Toni DeFrancisco of Hanover, Alyse Gendron of New Castle, Delaware, three Great grandchildren, Terric Greaves, Ryan Greaves, Caleb Good, all of Hanover, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Andrew DeFrancisco, Anthony DiFrancesco, Frank DeFrancisco and one sister, Geraldine Morose.
His funeral service will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial is in Greenlawn cemetery, Salem.
