Calvin J. Skipper, 82, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Friday, October 17, 2003, at his niece’s home in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M., Sunday, October 19, 2003, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with the Revs. J.A. Clements, Bobby Stone, and Ike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Irwinville Cemetery, Irwinville with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Saturday at Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Skipper was born April 18, 1921, in Providence, Kentucky, to the late Charles Jackson Skipper and Dolly Brackett Skipper. Mr. Skipper served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. After being discharged, he spent 15 years in the Air Force retiring as a Tech Sgt. on May 1, 1968 having served in Korea and Vietnam. He also served as Postmaster for 22 years at the Irwinville Post Office. Mr. Skipper had lived in the community since 1964 and was a member of the Dorminy Mill Baptist Church. He was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Shrine, and had received his 50-year pin while a member of the Irwinville Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Skipper is survived by: one sister, Mary Lee Hawkin of Spanaway, Washington; one brother, D.M. Skipper of Clarksville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews including: Patsy Sumner and Carolyn Sumner, both of Fitzgerald.
