Thomas F. Colbert, Sr., 70

Dateline: Lake Wales, Florida

Thomas F. Colbert, Sr., 70, of Lake Wales formerly of Lincoln, RI and Norton, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Easter Sunday April 4, 2010 at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Constance A (Mathieu) Mocogni-Colbert to whom he was wed on September 9, 2009 and was also the loving husband of the late Marie A. (Miller) Colbert to whom he was wed for 39 years at the time of her death on March 20, 2002.
Born in Somerville, MA on February 11, 1940 he was a son of the late James and Susan (Acherley) Colbert.
Tom grew up and was educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He later attended Bentley College where he received his degree in accounting.
Until retiring in January of 2009 Mr. Colbert had been employed for 17 years as an Accountant for the Todesca Equipment Co. in Hyde Park. He had previously worked for Peabody New England and JM Construction.
A resident of Florida for the past 1 year he had formerly lived in Lincoln, RI and for many years had made his home in Norton. He was a communicant of St. Aidans Church in Cumberland and a former parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Norton.
Tom was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge of Elks and was a former founding member of the former Norton Jaycee’s. He loved working on computers and was an avid car enthusiast. Tom also enjoyed dancing and music, Frank Sinatra being one of his all time favorites. He loved spending time with his family and the simple pleasures of a home cooked meal.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his devoted children Thomas F. Colbert, Jr. and his fiancée Melanie Lavoie of Norton and Dawn-Marie Antunes and her husband Michael of Taunton. He was the dear brother of Edmund “Lefty” Colbert of Somerville, Edith “Sis” Reid of Medford, June “Bunny” Stewart of Michigan, James Colbert of New Hampshire and Paul Colbert of Medfield. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren James W. Colbert and Hailey M. Colbert both of Attleboro as well as his step children and several loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday April 8th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday April 7th from 4-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family has requested that contributions in his memory be made to the American Lung Association 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400 Waltham, MA 02451.
