John Perry, 80

Dateline: Norton, MA

John Perry, 80, of Norton , passed away unexpectedly on Saturday April 3, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice L. (Hartshorn) Perry to whom he was wed for 48 years at the time of her death on August 26, 2002.
Born in East Providence, Rhode Island on June 4, 1929 he was a dear son of the late Frank and Isabel (Diogenes) Perry.
An Attleboro native, John grew up in Attleboro , was educated in Attleboro public schools and was a graduate of the Bristol County Agricultural School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany, before being honorably discharged.
Prior to retiring Mr. Perry had been employed for over 25 years at Texas Instruments in Attleboro as a Bonding Mill Operator and following retirement worked for several years at CGI in Taunton.
John was a longtime active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton where he served as a former Church Deacon and member of the Standing & Property Committee. He also served as a longtime delegate to the Massachusetts UCC Annual Meeting.
He was a lifetime member of both the Norton VFW Post 8049 and the Lieutenant Harold A. Healy American Legion Post 222.
One of John’s greatest passions in life was being involved with the Boy Scouts of America. For many years he served as a dedicated Scout Leader on both local and national levels. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver and the James E. West Fellowship Awards. He had completed a Wood Badge Training Program and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Mr. Perry had recently received the Distinguished Service Award for years of loyal service rendered.
John also very much loved growing things in his garden, had the ability to fix almost anything , and was extremely devoted to his loving family. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to others and had made his home in Norton for the past 50 years.
He was the loving and devoted father of Lorraine F. Perry of North Franklin, CT, Beverly-Jane Perry of Attleboro and the late Diane J. Perry and Frederick V. Perry. He was the adoring grandfather of Andrew Perry, James Perry and Rev. Catherine Perry. Brother of Edward Perry of Maine and the late Frank Perry and Elaine Perry, he is also survived by his cherished great grandson Brian Perry, his daughter in law Deborah Perry of North Attleboro and his dear companion Wendy Berlo of Norton.
Memorial services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday April 11th at 3:00 P.M. in the Trinitarian Congregational Church, East Main and Pine Streets, Norton. Burial will be at a later date in the Norton Center Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested that contributions in his memory be made to the Memorial Fund of the Annawon Council of the Boy Scouts of America 152 West Main St. Norton, MA 02766.
