New Bedford – Walter E. Leger, 66, of New Bedford died April 2, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the widower of Janice M. (Bourque) Leger.
Mr. Leger was born in New Bedford, son of the late Philip and Cora Leger, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Center. He was employed as a fish cutter by Golden Eye Seafood until his retirement. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, playing cards and pool.
Survivors include 2 sons: Walter E. Leger, Jr. of New Bedford and Richard A. “Tiny” Leger and his wife Paula of New Bedford; 2 daughters: Laura Fontaine and her husband Leonard of New Bedford and Lucille Fenstermaker of Anaheim, CA; a brother: Paul E. Leger of FL; 2 sisters: Miriam Sylvia of Fairhaven and Evelyn Stewart of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
He was father of the late Evelyn Hignite and brother of the late Daisy Bernier, Marjorie Milosek, Philip Leger and Steven Leger.

Funeral services on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home.
Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.
