Mr. Lawrence J. “Larry” Scola, age 56, passed away October 13th, in Florida while on vacation with his family. Born in Boston he was a son of Antonina (Vernaci) of Medford and the late Salvatore “Sam” Scola. Larry was a recent resident of North Andover, formerly of Reading for twenty-six years. Larry was the co-owner of Scola´s Sandwich Shop in Boston´s North End which was founded by his late father in 1933. He has worked there since he was old enough to reach over the counter. “Larry was the cornerstone of the North End community, said one friend”. Scola´s is a nieghborhood place and Larry was a true nieghbor. If one of the regulars didn´t come in for a few days, they could expect a call from Larry to check on them. For those elderly customers who couldn´t leave the house, he would be sure that their eggs and bread were delivered, at no charge of course. Larry was a trusted friend and neighbor. Recently, the family purchased a second home in the Florida Keys. Larry and his beloved wife of 32 years, Louise (Nazzaro) enjoyed the sun, ocean and the sand and especially being with thier family and friends. Larry adored his granddaughter Alyson and it was in Florida that he looked forward to spending time with her.
In addition to his wife Louise and granddaughter Alyson Marie Scola, Larry is survived by a daughter; Laura Oliveto and her husband Frank of North Andover, two sons; Larry and his wife Donna of Methuen, and 1st Lt. Nicholas Scola NHANG of Brentwood, NH. Larry is also survived by his siblings; Paul Scola, Donna McNamara, John Scola, Michael Scola, Joseph Scola, Rita Scola and Mary Bartlett. He is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews and surrogate grandson Ryan Rose.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Larry´s memory to the American Diabetes Assoc. 330 Congress St. 5th floor Boston, MA 02210 or to the American Heart Assoc. 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
