Obituary

Mr. Carmen P. Chiampa 88, of Medford, formerly of Boston’s North End died Tuesday in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. He was the husband of Josephine (Gibelli) Chiampa with whom he shared more than 64 years of marriage. Mr. Chiampa was born in Boston, the son of the late Carmen and Recheta (Moscufo) Chiampa and attended local schools. He was a Mail Carrier, employed by the U.S. Postal Service for many years. Mr. Chiampa is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWII in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a tireless volunteer at the Don Orione Home in East Boston. He and his wife Josephine devoted many hours in service and started the Beano games there. They enjoyed dancing together. He often solved crossword puzzles. In earlier years he was a member of a bowling league in the North End. Carmen will be fondly remembered for his storytelling and perfect delivery of the punchline of a good, clean joke. In addition to his wife, he leaves several loving cousins and an extended family of friends. Visiting hours on Monday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, Tuesday at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carmen’s name may be sent to the Don Orione Home, 111 Orient Ave., East Boston, MA 02128.
