Obituary

Doris Hall, 95

Dateline: Norton, MA

Doris (Honey) Hall, 95, of Norton passed away on Tuesday, March 30 with members of her loving family around her. For the past three years she lived at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton where she received such loving and wonderful care that it truly became her home.
Mrs. Hall was known as Honey all her life, given the name as a child for her thick honey-colored curls and throughout life for her happy out-going personality, ready smile and caring ways.
Born in Quincy, MA, she was raised in Eastondale. Honey was the daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Watson. She married her beloved husband, the late Wendell Hall, a business man and accountant all his life. They moved several times in the course of his work, settling in Chartley during many of the years their children were raised.
Honey was the fifth of 11 children, and helped care for her younger brothers and sisters following the death of her mother in childbirth. Her father was determined to keep the family together and the children developed a strong sense of love, loyalty and unity which continued throughout their lives. Her strength of character and love has nurtured and guided her own family throughout their lives.
While bringing up her own children, Honey worked side-by-side with her husband in his business ventures and was a church-school teacher and Superintendent at Chartley United Methodist Church. She also led a Girl Scout Troup. At a time when it was unusual to do so, she began her college education during her 40’s, and, upon graduation, became a teacher at Lewis School in Foxboro. During retirement, Honey and her husband traveled widely throughout the United States.
Following her husband’s death, Mrs. Hall returned to his birthplace where they had begun their marriage many years ago and lived in Raynham for 20 years among relatives and friends. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Raynham and active in church affairs. Upon her return to Norton, Honey was associated with the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her devoted children, Thomas Hall and his wife Margaret of Cheshire CT, Marjorie Crowe and her husband William of Norton, and Shirley Ruhl and her husband Mark of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; also her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Crowe, Elizabeth Baker, Todd Hall, Beth Strapp, Mark Hall, Katharine Huntington, James Ruhl and Christina Ruhl. She was the loving great-grandmother of Jacob Crowe, Benjamin Crowe, Emily Baker, Samuel Baker, Caroline Strapp, Elisabeth Strapp, Phoebe Hall, Doris Hall, Nuala Hall and Mairead Hall.
She was the loving sister of Rheta Rusilko and Ruth Cady; also the late Frances Langley, John (Bud) Watson, Helen Lewis, Leslie Gustafson, Kenneth Watson, Norma (Sally) Yannone, Phyllis Landreville and Ann Young. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, April 10th at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, East Main and Pine Streets, Norton. Interment in the Watson lot, at the South Easton Cemetery, Washington St.(Route 138) Easton, will precede the service at 9:30 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Honey’s memory may be made to the Memorial Fund (for educational purposes) at Trinitarian Congregational Church, P.O Box 2068, Norton MA 02766.
