Obituary

Hugh Smith, 88, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Arbor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born January 16, 1922 in Ben Hill County to the late William E. and Carrie Penn Smith. He was a life-long resident of Fitzgerald. Mr. Smith was a retired rural letter carrier and worked in the shipyards in Brunswick during World War II. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Smith was a member of the National Letter Carriers Association and a member of Arbor Baptist Church.

He is survived by his step-son and his wife: Wayne & Annetta Stegall of Fitzgerald; step-daughter: Emily Sessions of Jacksonville, FL; step-son: Tony Stegall of North Carolina; brother: Ernest H. Smith of Jacksonville, FL; sister: M. Irene Smith of Fitzgerald; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his two wives, Avie Jean Smith and Ruby Smith, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
