Vivian McCallum Swearingen, 84, of Fitzgerald, died Monday , March 29, 2010 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, March 31, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery , Broxton, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Swearingen was born March 26, 1926 to the late Thomas H. and Maggie Hersey McCallum in Coffee County, Georgia. She lived most of her life in Fitzgerald. During World War II she worked at North American Aircraft in Dallas, Texas making canopies for the P-51 Mustangs. When she and her husband returned to Fitzgerald she went to work at the Fitzgerald Cotton Mill until it closed. She was a long time member of Arbor Baptist Church.
Survivors are daughter and son-in-law Debra and Johnny Rutland of Fitzgerald, three grandchildren, Justin, Jason and Jessica Rutland, as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Willard Swearingen and three sisters.
