Obituary

CHELSEA, MICHIGAN___Irene H. (Blanchard) Gauvin, 98, of Chelsea, formerly of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday March 24, 2010 in Chelsea, Michigan in her son Rod’s home where she resided. Her husband of 55 years, Emile J. Gauvin died in 2004.

She leaves her children, Rodrigue E. Gauvin and his wife Paula of Chelsea; Simonne G. Lynch and her husband Mark of North Potomac, Maryland and Roland J. Gauvin and his wife Melissa of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts; five granddaughters, three grandsons and numerous nephews and nieces. She was born in Tracadie, New Brunswick, Canada, a daughter of Sylvain and Emilie (St. Pierre) Blanchard and was the last survivor of twelve siblings. She later lived many years in Worcester before retiring to Cape Cod in 1985. She later lived 2 1/2 years in North Potomac before coming to Chelsea 2 1/2 years ago.

Mrs. Gauvin owned and operated the Silhouette Beauty Salon on Hamilton street in Worcester for many years. After retiring she practiced hairdressing at Saint Francis Home, Worcester. Irene was a member of St. Joseph Church, Worcester and its former Dames des Ste Anne Sodality and became a member of St. Pius X Church, South Yarmouth when she retired to Cape Cod.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 31 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Church at Holy Family Parish, 35 Hamilton Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday, March 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, Ma., 02472 or to Special Olympics, 512 Forest St., Marlborough, Ma., 01752.
