John E. Hancock, 57, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M., Wednesday, March 31 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. James Hubbard officiating. Alicia Hancock will read a poem. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:30 Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
John was born November 11, 1952 in Fitzgerald to the late James Thomas “Bo” Hancock, Jr. and the late Bessie Harden Hancock. He grew up in Fitzgerald. John was the superintendent for Irby Construction Company. He had worked in Mississippi, Florida, Missouri, Washington, California, Georgia, Colorado, Hawaii, Utah, Texas, North Carolina, Nevada, Idaho, Kentucky, Arizona, Minnesota, Nebraska, Arkansas and Puerto Rico building power lines. John will be greatly missed by his many family and friends.
He is survived by his son: Brian James Hancock of Melrose, FL; daughter: Alicia Jean Hancock of Madison, MN; mother of children: Wendy Jill Hancock of Madison, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law: Becky H. and Royce Powell of Fitzgerald, Jean H. and Carl Morris of Douglas and Shelia and Buddy Butrum of Chatsworth; brothers and sisters-in-law: James & Oneita Hancock and Ronald D. and Barbara Hancock, all of Fitzgerald; sister-in-law: Bonnie Hancock of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a loving son, Jacob Chester Hancock and two brothers, Danny Hancock and Joe Hancock.
