Betty Ruth Swearengen, age 70, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. Betty Ruth's life was rich with friends and joyful activity. She was a tireless member of the Town and Country Garden Club, and enjoyed gardening and blooming, colorful flowers. She played bridge and rook with her friends, and enjoyed a close relationship with her grandson, Conner. Betty Ruth was a retired schoolteacher and a member of First Baptist Church and the GEM Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Swearengen, in 2009.
Visitation is planned for Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 5 until 7 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Services are planned for Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11 AM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Dr. Randy Bain presiding and Rev. Don Harding offering special music. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Dalton Rogers, Jack Gurner, Steve Holloway, Larry Bell, Bruce Harding, and Billy Harding serving as pallbearers.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Gray and her husband, Donald, of Water Valley, MS; a son, Steve Swearengen, and his wife, Brenda, of Nesbit, MS; a sister, Kay McCulley of Water Valley, MS; six grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
