SALEM- Henry J. Soboczinski, 81, husband of Florence M. (Zwierko) Soboczinski, of Salem, died Monday morning, October 8, 2001 in the Salem Hospital following a short illness. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past June.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John and Stefania (Blaszkiewicz) Sobocinski.
Prior to his retirement from the General Electric Co. in 1981, he was employed for 41 years in the Turbine Division at the Riverworks plant in Lynn. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.
A lifelong resident of the city, he was a graduate of Salem High School and an active parishioner of the St John The Baptist Church where he was a member of several committees and groups, including the Holy Name Society, and the Bingo Committee. He was an organizer and first president of the St John The Baptist CYO. Since 1952, he was a member of both the St Joseph Society, PRCU, and the Veragua Council, Knights of Columbus #76 of Salem. He was also a member of the PLAV, Post #55 and the Crow II Club, Salem.
Mr Soboczinski was a Coast Guard Veteran of WWII and held the rating of Motor Machinist Mate Third Class.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael J. Soboczinski of Salem, John H. and his wife Sarah “Sally” Soboczinski of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, three daughters, Jean E. Soboczinski of Salem, Mary A. And her husband Adolfo Araya of Westboro, Julie A. and her husband Jay Medailleu of Peabody, five grandchildren, Joseph, Benjamin and Steffani Araya of Westboro, Eric and Valerie Soboczinski of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, one sister, Gertrude Lozinski of West Roxbury, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Victoria Bachorowski and Rose Peabody.
His funeral service was held Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at St John The Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours were Wednesday, 4 to 8 pm. Burial was is in St Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
